Intel Joins Musk’s Terafab AI Chip Project To Power Humanoid And Data Center Ambitions

Intel has agreed to join Elon Musk's ambitious "Terafab" initiative, a large-scale chip manufacturing project aimed at producing advanced semiconductors for artificial intelligence applications, including humanoid robots and data centers.

The project, backed by Musk's companies including Tesla, SpaceX and xAI, seeks to build a new generation of integrated chip factories capable of delivering massive computing power at unprecedented scale.

Sources familiar with the matter said the Terafab concept envisions tightly integrated facilities that combine chip design, manufacturing, packaging and deployment, departing from the traditional separation between chip designers and foundries.

The initiative aims to support Musk's broader ambitions in artificial intelligence, particularly in robotics and autonomous systems, which require significantly higher computing capacity than current infrastructure can provide.

Intel's participation is expected to strengthen its contract manufacturing business, as the company continues its push to compete with leading foundry players and regain technological leadership.

Financial details of the partnership have not been disclosed, but analysts say the scale of investment required could reach tens of billions of dollars, reflecting the capital-intensive nature of advanced semiconductor manufacturing.
